Portfolio

I have dabbled in web design since 1999. I can provide site hosting, domain registration, and content and design development. I have created sites for businesses and non-profits. I have provided updating services for websites requiring continuous updating. Email me to begin discussing your project at zieak@yahoo.com.

Below are a few of the sites I have designed.

Tonka Seafoods

Tonka Seafoods

Tonka Seafoods produces smoked salmon from wild Alaska salmon. I helped migrate their site to a free online software system from one that had a monthly fee. They are able to manage inventory, take orders online, provide coupons and discounts as well as many other services. With a few search engine optimizations the website has jumped for searches which include “Alaska smoked salon” and “wild Alaska salmon.”

AlaskaLife.org

Quite a while ago Klas Stolpe asked me to work with him on a website for his photography. I finally took a few of his photos and made a splash page to sit on the domain alaskalife.org.

Whalesong Cruises

A local charter operator that provides sightseeing, whale watching, glacier viewing, and other marine transportation services here in Petersburg, Alaska, Whalesong Cruises provided me with text and photos and I created this site.

Wrangell Sentinel

Having designed the latest version of the Petersburg Pilot website, owner Ron Loesch asked me to create a similar site for the Wrangell Sentinel. It followed the style of the Pilot by providing news headlines, weather, a search function, and links to other local information sources.

Rainbow Glacier Christian Camp

Presbytery of Alaska approached me about creating a basic page with information for people about their Rainbow Glacier Christian Camp.

Petersburg Pilot

The Petersburg Pilot launched a new design in early March 2004. The redesign features a front page with headlines and news snippets, a photograph, weather, a search feature, and state news headlines. Story pages had links to related stories and websites (when I updated their site for them – now that they are doing it they seem to have stopped). I updated weekly with a selection of photos and stories from the previous week’s paper. I created all of the page templates and style sheets and optimized the site structure to be cataloged by the Google news aggregators.

LeConte Outfitters

Dave and Wanda Helmick wanted a site to promote their LeConte Outfitters service providing hunting, fishing, sightseeing, and transportation services. The site was officially launched in October 2004. Using photographs the Helmick’s provided, I scanned images and created a fluid feel to their site. All graphic design, page layout and stylesheets were created by me.
Sadly, Dave Helmick passed away in the fall of 2005.

Petersburg Economic Development Council

The Petersburg Economic Development Council website largely had content ready for publishing. They used photos available for public use from the state and had a logo on their letterhead. I simply connected the pieces and then collected a number of links for businesses to use. This site was launched in the summer of 2004.

Online forum for Petersburg, Alaska

I decided to register mitkof.org to provide Petersburg with a constructive resource for community discussion, buying and selling, and providing information to residents and those interested in Petersburg. The site is driven with a database providing a forum and other resources for members.

In addition, to the above sites I have worked with Viking Travel to provide online processing of their credit cards and also provide hosting for free to Alaska’s Rainforest Islands.
