Hamper – the final chapter

As mentioned earlier, i have been getting some stuff done. Including finishing up this laundry hamper project that was begun in March.

Action Figure Wreath

Quite a long time ago Amy and I came up with the plan to make a wreath out of action figures. The original vision was to have them melted together with arms coming out of torsos and a general chaotic pattern. After many trips to the Salvation Army we realized that there was no way we were going to get enough action figures in any short period of time. I shopped around on eBay and ended up with a pile of mixed action figures. Judy Forgey donated a metal wreath ring to start from and last year Amy sat down with some metal wire and tied a bunch of the action figures together. That worked out pretty well but some of the lower figures sagged and started to swing from their bonds. With my need to stay fairly still for long periods of time in an effort to let my leg muscle heal i decided to reconstruct the wreath. I tried shoe goo but it was far too messy and took hours to dry. Superglue was nearly invisible and dried in less than a half hour.

There are an assortment of figures in this piece. G.I. Joe, X-Men, Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, Predator, Alien, some very generic figures, and quite a few that i don’t know.

I think doing a Barbie one would be pretty neat. I have started collecting rubber snakes, bugs, and the like to do an animal wreath. I was considering putting little lights into the wreath so i can have it lit during the holidays… we’ll see. I have about a dozen extra figures but they are all from the Ninja Turtle series. I had considered cutting off their limbs with my Dremel Tool and then glueing arms and legs erupting from other characters. So many ideas…

One last thing – i think this project cost about $60 including the wire, superglue, figurines, and shipping.

Lamp

I have been catching up on some of my crafty projects lately. I finished up the trim on my laundry hamper and completely redid the action figure wreath (superglued it). So i have a few new project ideas including making some sort of a lamp out of CDs like this. I’ll post pictures of the wreath and hamper soon. I also finished glueing the stainless steel onto the top of one of the red pieces of furniture and will get some before, during, and after of that up as well. …yes, i have been sitting around the house a lot with my torn muscle. But i have gone two days without using my crutches and am down to a tolerable limp. So i guess some of these new project ideas may have to wait until my next major injury.

Frankenstein (Marley)

Some of you may be wondering how Marley is doing. Well, she’s moving around a lot better than i am. I call her Frankenstein – not just because of the Halloween flare – but because of the 7 inches of stitches she’s sporting.

I’m working on getting around with one crutch instead of two. I’m a bit disappointed with my recovery progress. I did, after all, end up playing wallyball for the past 6 months with a broken ankle. Except for the few weeks of swelling initially it wasn’t all that bad.

Election day

Tomorrow a few of us will go and vote. I’m glad the day is here – too bad we won’t know who the president is right away. You know, we’ll have to endure lawsuits and court hearings and accusations of a stolen presidency. Honestly, i hope that all doesn’t happen. But i won’t hold my breath. You would think that in a world where someone can sit in a restroom, play a demo of Bejeweled on their cell phone, decide to buy it, go online with their phone purchase, install, and play the game all before flushing that we could figure out who won an election within a few hours of the close of the polls. I’m really looking forward to the pre-recorded telephone calls to stop. Cripes – i know this is an important election with Lisa and Tony battling for the senate seat… but stop with the calls already.

The handy badge below is from electoral-vote.com. The creator does have a Kerry lean to his site – but i think his projections are not biased. But if you want to look at a site with a Bush tilt here is one. I find it particularly interesting that the latter predicts Alaska’s senate seat to end up a democrat. We’ll see.
