This is a picture of an actual record i saw at the Juneau Salvation Army.

Bumping the chute

By Ryan McFarland in Music 2 Comments »

This is such an incredible sample.

“I know a dance that’s fun to do
I like to do this dance with you
Would you like to do it too?
It’s called bump, bump, bumping the chute.”

I know you want the sound clip for your own use in the privacy of your home so here it is…
“bumping the chute”

I suppose i should point out that this was ripped from a cassette called “Playtime Parachute Fun for Early Childhood” 1977

mp3 trimming

By Ryan McFarland in Links, Music No Comments »

With the copying that i have been doing from tapes and records (and a dvd audio clip or two) i needed a way to tidy up some of the clips (it is tough to cue up a record and start the mp3 recorder in perfect sequence every time). And so i stumbled on this free tool to trip mp3s. Expect more clips soon!

Samples

I have been collecting samples from records for use in mixes and thought I’d share. Unfortunately, the record player i’m using has a problem with the output so it only plays out of one speaker. These files are mp3s.

From the record “Children’s Bible Hour sings Fun Songs of Participation” 1983

“Here comes another one of those rounds where everybody sings something different all at once.”
“Are you all ready for some exercise?”
“We’d better hear the verses one at a time.”

From “Betsy McCall’s Sing Along Party” 1963

“Could we sing some cowboy songs?”
“A sing-along is fun for the whole family, isn’t it?”
“He’s one of our most popular American composers, you know.
“That was fun. Now let’s sing along with some and hum along with others.”
“Children, wouldn’t you like to sing some of the songs that I sang when I was a girl? I’m sure you’ll like them too.”

From “Walt Disney presents Acting out the ABC’s” 1964

“Now we’re going to sing a counting song that you all know.”
“If you’ll all gather close around the phonograph, and listen carefully, I’ll tell you how we’re going to have a whole lot of fun.”
“Let’s all sing a song.”
“Now we’re going to do a fun dance…”
“So let’s play and sing”
“Select a wife from one of these pretty girls.”
“Here’s another singing game we can act out.”
“All stand in a circle and stick out your fists.”

And a few odd ones…

“Lalalala… Oh hello there. This is your old pal Grover. Yeah. Oh, I am so glad you are here. I was just here all by myself you know. Oh, but that’s ok. I can do lots of things when I’m alone.”
“Oh that was fun, let’s do it again.”

NMOA

By Ryan McFarland in Music, Zieak 5 Comments »

I mentioned my brief stint in NMOA before. Well here are a few digitally remastered (not really) mp3 files of our stuff. Sadly I have only one full song of the four original songs. Sloth is now available as a single file. Arthropod Murderers was cut off at the end so some of the good parts are missing. Aw heck, who am i kidding? There aren’t any good parts.
Sloth
Arthropod Murderers

Lyrics:

Sloth
This is… N.M.O.A.!
Sloth! Sloth! (Two-toed, that is.)
Sloth! Slo-[cough]
Is a sloth a marsupial?
Wombat!
Sloth! Sloth. Sloth.
Sloths are not marsupials.
Sloths are marsupials.
Sloths are mammals.
Marsupials are mammals.
Sloths do not nurse their young in a pouch.
You murse your nung in a pouch.
(Unintelligible) Marsupial! Marsupial!
Marsupial! Sloth. Sloth!
Sloth! Sloth! Wombat!
(Unintelligble) Sloth! Sloth! Sloth! Sloth! Sloth! Two-toed sloth!
Nurse your young in a pouch! Raaaargh!
(Unintelligble) …nurse their young in a pouch.
They do! Nurse their young in a pouch. Marsupials.
Rrrargh. Sloth Sloth Sloth! Sloth!
Marsupials! Sloooooottttthhhhhrrrrrghhhh…

Arthropod Murderers
We’re sorry, you have reached the wrong album. Please try again at the sound of the tone.
Arthropod murderers! (Unintellible for about a minute with the occasional “arthropod murderers” or “arthropod death” coming through the gibberish. There also is a little something about killing spiders in the shower.)
