Have some dvds that you own but don’t watch any more and don’t think are worth much? Try joining Peerflix. You list movies you have and movies you want and for each one you send to someone else you earn a few points worth trading to get movies from other people. I just listed perhaps 20 movies and now have to mail out 6 dvds. You print out two pages, fold up an envelope out of them and place just the disc inside. Put a single stamp on and it is ready to go. Thanks for getting me to join Kevin!

Napoleon

If you couldn’t quite get enough of Napoleon Dynamite then you should listen to the radio ads and watch the tv spots he and Pedro made for the Utah State fair. They pretty much are the coolest ads ever made by a person.

Darth Vader
We went and saw the last Star Wars movie on Friday night. Darth Vader came to town to check it out too.

Deathstalker IV

By Ryan McFarland in Movies & TV 1 Comment »

Deathstalker IV from 1990 is a good bad movie. Here is a sampling of the first 15 minutes…

1:30 - First nunchucks usage
3:00 - First decapitation
6:39 - Second decapitation
7:30 - Third decapitation
9:54 - First discussion about sex. Concludes with “It saps your vital juices.”
13:30 - First boobies. Surprisingly, those of the main female character in the movie.

I don’t want to ruin the movie for anyone - but if you see the first Deathstalker movie then you’ll have seen a portion of this movie since they re-used footage. The end of the movie is funny too - the credits that is. The occurrence of people’s last names ending in ~nov, ~rov, ~chev, and ~ova was our first hint (really!) that this movie was filmed in Bulgaria. Yes, Bulgaria. The final best part about the movie is the soundtrack. It seemed to have come from my brother’s two foot long Casio keyboard while on battery power in an empty closet. Don’t bother watching this movie with a stereo or a subwoofer - it would be a waste of electrical current. Try to set your system to mono.

Alias is insane

By Ryan McFarland in Movies & TV 6 Comments »

Cena and i have been watching the series “Alias” on dvd lately. Tonight we started season three. But we have noticed something that can only be some sort of inside joke among the writers of the story. On disc 5 of the second season i noticed the main character said something like “that makes me insane” and i made fun of it. Nobody says that. We use “that drives me crazy” or something like it. In the next episode her love interest says “when people question my honesty it makes me insane” (once again, that’s just something close to what was said). But what was interesting was that this part of the dialog did not fit either - and the part that seemed out of place was the word “insane”. Crazy - i know. Well, last night we watched the last two episodes of season two. Guess what. Yep. At least one actor said the word “insane” in each episode. And tonight we watched the first four episodes of season 3. This may sound insane but someone said “insane” in each of the four episodes. I know what you’re thinking. Insane. So for the last eight consecutive episodes someone has said “insane” sometime during the program. Sure, they throw in “crazy” every now and then but what are the chances that the writers actually happen to use this word so often? It would be interesting to go back and watch the first season and the 18 episodes of season 2 that we didn’t notice the insanity. If there is an inside joke about it then i hope they google the words “alias” and “insane” because if they do it won’t be long before this post is at the top of the search results. I think it is insane that they have gotten away with this for so long without anyone noticing.

Zapped

Zapped

This “comedy/sci-fi” movie from 1982 stars Scott Baio (the dude from Charles in Charge) as a high school senior that accidentally gains telekinetic powers. What else would you expect after mixing some

growth formula, beer, and some fluid extracted from cannabis? Sadly, Scott’s character (Barney) only exposes Heather Thomas’ (the hot chick in The Fall Guy!) chest twice during the movie (and once was a boob double). Heather Thomas from Zapped showing her braDon’t worry - he manages to use his powers to remove other bras and tops. But while i’m talking about Heather Thomas… I did a bit of a Google Image Search (widely known as a GIS) for her and realized why she seemed familiar. I remember a picture of her with just a towel and a towering 80s haircut and this one of her in a white bikini. Ok - I’ll stop obsessing. Back to the fact that this movie had very little to do with telekinesis… This film should have been about the two mice in the scuba outfits. They could have used their telekinetic powers to remove Heather Thomas’ top and then we wouldn’t have had to deal with Bernadette (the class president). I was fascinated by the Mongoloid pitcher of the Tigers baseball team. (Our “hero” was a bench-ridden player for the Penguins who naturally won the game using his powers.)

Since it seems that Google image surfers seem to like the results on this page here are some high quality images of Heather Thomas…

Baroness

By Ryan McFarland in Movies & TV 1 Comment »

Heather Canik has a huge DVD library. Right now Amy and I have been working on chewing through G.I.Joe (the series) season one. Naturally, i’m smitten by some of the female characters. Lady J can be really hot even if she is named after a female urinal device. But the past two episodes have featured the Baroness wearing pretty skimpy outfits.

This episode the Baroness is supposed to be a southern belle. She has just removed her mask, put her glasses on, and pulled her gun on Wild Bill. I combined two screen captures to gather the full image…
[removed because a dork is stealing my image - sorry you google image seekers!]
This episode featured the Baroness in her bikini for the entire show. You see, she was captured while here in the hot tub. Then forced to wander a candy island in search of a helicopter. She and Flint even got to roll around a little bit after some hand-to-hand combat.

TV on DVD

Amy and I are working on watching the first season of the A-Team on DVD. And the entire collection of Monty Python’s Flying Circus is probably going to be a project for Cena and I since Amy isn’t at all a fan. Then there is season 2 of Speed Racer… and season 1 of the Transformers. So we have a good 2 months of couch time lined up. Maybe when winter comes we’ll get the chance.

Now showing

We watched Kill Bill tonight. It was just as gory and violent as the reviews indicated. There were quite a few instances of spraying blood from where limbs or heads used to be. So yeah - I definitely gave it two thumbs up. Sorry if i ruined the end for anybody. Oh wait - this was only part one - i can’t ruin the end.
