Ode to mustard

I was telling my family that I think I have a new favorite food. Mustard. It is very low in calories. I think that cheap yellow mustard is zero calories. It can dress up almost any dish too. Lately I have been putting it on eggs. Eggs! A hard boiled egg with some spicy brown mustard suddenly seems like a deviled egg. The other morning I even put some on my fried egg and bacon on toast.
25 years ago I started putting mustard on my grilled cheese sandwiches. We ate them at camp once or twice a week. White bread with processed cheese really is a bland sandwich. It is much better with mustard. Although separating the gooey slices doesn’t always work so I would just spread it on top.
Of course I put it on burgers. Sometimes I go without ketchup and just use mustard. But I put it on french fries whenever possible too.
We’re packing for a long train trip and I think I should plan on at least one bottle of mustard to help with some of the flavors we’ll experience.
