Game On

I’m doing a diet. I’ve tried a few before. But this one is different. It’s a group thing and is cooperative and competitive. It’s the Game On diet. First off – if you’re thinking I don’t need to be on a diet – thank you. But you’re wrong. I actually went to the clinic and had them dig up my weight since 2000. Some years they had three records and there are three years without a single weight but here’s a graph that shows the trend of all 18 data points from January 2000 to December 2009.

The time scale might be off but there’s a definite trend! In 2000 I weighed 172. I know that I have hit 210 a few times in the last couple of years. That’s almost 40 pounds.

So there are 8 of us doing this diet. There are a bunch of different things you have to do to earn points. At the end of each week, your points are combined with your team mates and averaged. At the end of four weeks the winning team gets a prize. You get 6 points per meal and there are 5 times you need to eat daily. You get points for drinking 3 liters of water, exercising 20 minutes, sleeping 7 hours, dropping a bad habit, sticking with a new good habit, and daily communication with teammates and opponents.

You get a day off from each thing. And on the day off you also don’t get deductions for things like getting on the scale more than once, snacking, or having alcohol or soda.

Each week you weigh in on your “day off” from eating and your goal for the next weigh in is to be 1% lighter.

So here’s how i’m looking after a few days…

We’re now 9 days into it and I’m down to the lowest weight that I’ve been since 2004. I’d like to drop another 10 pounds. If I just barely squeak by at each weigh-in then I should hit 180 by my birthday – which just happens to be the day after we wrap up!
