I’m a bit behind on blog entries. So a few posts may be scattered around a bit…
On Labor Day the whole house was sleeping in a little when we woke to a phone call. It was Alaska Marine Lines informing me we had 2,600 pounds of freight to pick up. The shipment from Pepper’s move from China!
She used a service for some moving help. Everything arrived in great condition – it probably helped that they used a heck of a lot of packing paper and bubble wrap.
They even wrapped her wooden furniture with bubble wrap and then made custom boxes with cardboard and tape to wrap them.
Two stone pieces had crates made for them. And crates were also made to contain a large collection of framed artwork.
I’ve moved a number of times across the country, but never with a professional moving service before. Certainly one benefit is that you can get a bunch of identically sized boxes to pack in.
(We later gave a bunch of boxed to Rachel to use to move to a new place in town so they have gotten a few uses and their fair share of miles!)
It took us all day to get the six pallets to the house, unwrapped, moved in and things pretty much put in place. We still have many pictures to put on the walls – we just need more walls to do that!
Consider Billy’s moving services for movers in Dallas.

Jordan shows off his Lego creation and Courtney showboats in the background.
If a tree falls in the woods, why does it always have to ruin something?
The very strong winds last night blew down about six trees at Sandy Beach Park. This one rests on the old restroom building in the park.
The deer around Petersburg are dangerously tame. A doe and two fawns walked between my car and the pool building. That was after the doe saw me get out of my car and then get back in.
Rachel came over on Thursday. She cooked ahi, coconut rice and a vegetable medley and then we played a boardgame… That’s the kind of winter we’ll be having!
Jordan and i spent a little time last weekend soldering on a little project. I had him help me out especially when it’s nice to have a third hand. He did get a little concerned about the house’s air quality when i told him not to inhale the fumes!
Oliver hates having a camera in his face. Aside from having his food stirred around and leaning against something he doesn’t actually like much of anything. Well, maybe a good scratch and the occasional catnip.
Last year at work we rebuilt one of the shelters at Sandy Beach Park. I was pretty proud of how the roof trusses came together because i had quite a part in that portion of the project. Check out the link for a tutorial on how to build log trusses.
On Saturday Jordan went to Sandy Beach Park and took part in his first Cub Scout meeting. They did a flag ceremony, the pledge and oath, and then worked on firewood splitting techniques and built a fire to roast marshmallows on.
When he returned home, Jordan wanted to build a fire so we did. And we ate dinner sitting around it too!
