Garage sale at the Lutheran Church
here’s an actual email conversation with a friend that also goes to the dump to salvage regularly…
- Z: i sometimes watch TV shows on the computer. (don’t judge me!) i’m catching up on The Office right now and in this scene Michael Scott and Dwight Schrutte are at the dump looking for something accidentally thrown away. Dwight said “this place has gone to hell.” And all i could think was how we felt with the desolation at the dump last weekend!
- S: i’m not judging! i love the office. funny funny. did they find it?
- Z: Nope. They (re)found their respect for each other though. Which, of course, is what going to the dump is all about.
- S: deep, so deep!
- Z: That’s what she said. Sorry. Couldn’t help it. It was just too appropriate.
You probably have to have watched The Office to truly appreciate the “that’s what she said” comment. Since Michael Scott says it throughout the show. But me explaining it kind of ruins it.
KFSK junk turned into a drawer

So Saturday and Sunday i dug into the pieced and eviscerate3d them of the guts. I decided that i really liked the color of the case and the handles on the front inspired me to change the cases into drawers. I’ll make a set of end tables or night stands out of these. I think i’ll use the metal top to make a shelf below the drawer. The top, sides, and legs will probably be wood.

On Friday, KFSK announced that they had a pile of old equipment that was free for the taking. I popped by when i had a few minutes during lunch. Then i went back on Saturday and loaded up a number of items including three of these rack mounted pieces of equipment.

Saturday was the big garage sale at the Lutheran Church. I picked up this pile for $10.
I have been wanting this kind of a stool for a while now. I used on in college and liked how it kept my back straight. I had planned on making one but this one was just $2! I like how it is made of wood.
The plaid jacket is a wool Pendelton.
The plate is the latest in my collection of eclectic plates. Someone said that having all of your plates different is a great idea because if you break something you didn’t just break a set.
The other three items are small pots. One with the succulent, and the other two are for me to put herbs in.

On Saturday i bought four of these planters and a few bags of potting soil. I put a few inches of stones in the bottom of each planter. I packed soil into the pot and then transplanted ferns and moss into one and a few columbine plants in the other. I did two of each.

I picked up this work light lamp shade while salvaging a few months ago. I knew that i wanted to put a plant in it. Saturday i transplanted a fern from behind the house into it. I topped the soil with moss and hung it where it should get plenty of rain.
Less than 24 hours later i knocked it off…
