China: McDonald’s pineapple pie

China: McDonald's pineapple pie

I ate at McDonald’s a few times. More than i would have if i was in the US on vacation. That’s why McDonald’s is great. You know the menu. You know exactly how things will taste. Well, you might not know the whole menu…

Remember those apple pies from decades ago? They came out of some machine that pumped apple flavored lava into a crispy outer shell. Well, in China they have those machines reconfigured to inject pineapple flavored lava in.

It was good.

In Singapore I noticed that the McDonald’s menu board totally emphasized the glistening, crispy veggies on the burger pictures. In the United States the emphasis is on massive pictures of french fries and soda. I found that so interesting but I never really came up with a theory why? We, too, ate more McDonald’s in Singapore and drank more Starbucks in Tokyo than we would have traveling here … and it was a fun mix of completely familiar and completely foreign. Did you try any of the burgers between fresh rice cakes instead of buns? “hamburger is my life”…

  2. That sounds pretty damn tasty. :) I remember going to Subway in Germany and being ecstatic that they had bags of Doritos (which I couldn’t find ANY where else!).

Pineapple pies are good but I don’t like the taro or red bean pies. The menu at the Mcdonald’s in China is pretty much the same except for a few variations that has been suited to fit the local taste.
