I have one picture of a person off to one of the sides in this picture that would help give it some scale…

We were in Beijing just a few days after the 60th anniversary celebration. Most citizens were not permitted to watch the festivities on site so many came to the city like we did – a few days afterward. This is a series of images stitched together.
While i was in China I received this message through Flickr.
Hi Ryan,
My name is Chad Swift and I am the Associate Producer for a show coming out on the Do It Yourself netowork (DIY) called “Disaster House.” The premise of our show is we recreate accidental or natural home disaster to a house my production company has purchased here in Denver, Colorado. We then bring in construction experts who show our viewers the best way to repair the damage. I am currently searching for cover photos for one of our episodes featuring a roof collapse. I came across your photo
and I was wondering if you would like to have it aired on national television? If you are interested, please contact me.Sincerely,
Chad Swift
Associate Producer
DIY’s “Disaster House”

While i will not be paid for the use of the picture i see this as more great exposure. It ties in with my DIY resume: three books, Japanese TV, Popular Photography magazine…
I found a few pictures of me on Flickr from a fellow beardsman. He also happens to be a journalist covering the event for the Santa Barbara Independent. One of his stories is here and on the last picture if you look reallyclosely in the very center you can see me.

The day i returned to Petersburg was Sunday the 18th. I got to the house unpacked a little and pretty quickly got to tearing out one of the windows. earl had been house sitting and would be staying at the house for another week so i took advantage of the day off and the extra hands. We made a trip to the hardware store and i realized that they were having their annual basket sale.
For a few weeks they have a bunch of tables packed with things they want to get rid of. They mark down the percentage each week until the last Sunday when they let people fill shopping baskets for $25 and shopping carts for $75. Heaping.
That morning people wait at the doors for a good half hour before the store opens. I know. I did it a few years back. This year i was there hours after the vultures had passed through. I’m glad i missed out on the “good stuff” because i would have been bummed about the good stuff i missed! You can see that for $75 i scored a ceiling fan, hedge trimmer, lots of paint, two deadbolts, electrical switches, bathroom hooks, some books, lazy susans, and many other items.
earl and i did an estimate by counting the prices on the tags of the items and the total original value was over $2,500. Some items i’ll try and sell. Most i’ll use. Some i’ll probably store for a decade before deciding it is time to get rid of.

Almost three weeks after arriving in China it was time for my return to the US. It was a great trip.
