Going Steady
In 1940 Elizabeth Woodward published a series of pamphlets for Ladies’ Home Journal with subjects like “How to be Popular,” “Any Girl Can Neck, But…” and “Going Steady.”
Here are some of the jewels you can find in the PDF that i have linked above…
“When necking is your favorite indoor and outdoor sport with the boy you go with, you won’t go with him long.”
“But don’t forget that you can get this close to several different boys — and all at the same time!”
“Your prime job and delight rest in doing things for him.”

oh my! "Your prime job and delight rest in doing things for him"
I can’t believe they actually wrote the phrase “dollars to doughnuts” in there…and just take a look at the caliber of writing…of course, it is simple enough that there are no questions about what was meant – maybe we should go back to that after all…

I was amused by the “dollars to doughnuts” wording too! I actually stopped there and said “who writes that?”
