China - bike hauling a desk

Although the picture is a little blurry, this is most definitely a desk lashed onto the rack of a bicycle.

China - Pepper

I had kind of considered proposing on the Great Wall or some other special moment. But i am not very good at keeping secrets and i didn’t want her to accidentally stumble on the ring so i proposed considerably sooner than i had intended.

China - engagement ring

I bought the stone from Blue Nile out of Seattle. Their web site was great and the woman that helped me on the phone was quite supportive to my specifications and helped narrowing my choices.

I had the stone sent to a man in Georgia for a custom titanium tension setting.

China - Harbin Beer

I have been trying local beer – they all taste light.

China - dumplings

On Tuesday for lunch and for dinner i had dumplings – a favorite food in the area. I hope to get the recipe – they were delicious.

Filled with ground pork, cilantro, onion and similar tasty combinations… i need to learn how to make these.

China - students celebrate our engagement

Some of Pepper’s students had a fun time decorating a bulletin board with celebratory messages.

China - tuk-tuk in the rain

Tuesday afternoon i took a taxi to Pepper’s school and then we took a shuttle to pick up Jordan. We walked for a little while before picking up a tuk-tuk to head to Pepper’s.

China - cab ride to Jordan's birthday dinner

We went to Jordan’s favorite restaurant for dinner – a Brazillian BBQ. Mmmm…mmmmeats. Bacon wrapped stuff, pork, beef, chicken, lamb… I ate myself into a jet-lag assisted coma.

China - intensify the awareness

The other fire-related sign at Pepper’s development’s entrance: “Intensify the awareness of fire precaution; improve the ability of surviving danger.”

China - fire control

From a sign at the entrance to Pepper’s development: “Knowledge of fire control makes you safe from disaster.” Of course.
