Terracycle will pay a few cents to a charity or school for things like drink pouches, candy wrappers, energy bar wrappers and yogurt containers.  Check out the list of items at www.terracycle.net.  They turn these waste items into bags, flower pots, and other products you can buy.  Props to Readymade magazine for their article about the company and pointing out the ability to collect for Terracycle.

Ash and Yeti

Last night Ash groomed Yeti for a while. Yeti hasn’t ever had positive attention from an other cat so he’s torn. You can tell he likes it but he growls sometimes. And then he’ll bite Ash on the neck. Ash takes it and for some reason keeps coming back to groom more.

Is Ash like the battered wife? Serving Yeti and only being yelled at and struck after trying his best?

Valdez
Someone has been checking Google to see if I got the job in Valdez. No, I didn’t. I’m staying in Petersburg.

I was told by the City Manager there that i “aced” the interview and the examination process they use.  They chose the other candidate simply because he did quite well and was born and raised in Valdez.  He had been teaching and coaching in Valdez for 20 years or so.

When i returned to town i decided i won’t be applying for jobs elsewhere for a while.

Berries and fruit!

I bought a pound of mixed berries because they looked so good. I got a mix of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and goldenberries (cape gooseberries). The golden berries are native to the Peru/Ecuador/Columbia area but I didn’t have them while down there. I saw them in markets inside their pods though. They were tart and went well with the other berries. I didn’t have any cherries even though they were very well displayed!

Cheese!

Like the meat photo, this is only a tiny portion of the selection available at the specialty shops among the Granville Island markets.

Meats!

The specialty shop on Granville Island had me salivating. Imagine a finger food Friday with a meat and cheese spread with this variety to choose from.
