The concrete pad for the skate park in Petersburg is nearing completion. It won’t be too long before the ramps are being assembled and we have a grand opening. Mike and i really should become suppliers for skate boards and equipment at Zoom Bikes. The problem is that we can’t be very competitive with online stores. Bicycles generally can’t be shipped to the post office so you’re forced to buy them in bike shops. But a deck, wheels and trucks of a skateboard can make it across the country in no time.
I have not done much research into becoming a retailer though. This seller of skateboards will sell completed boards or parts. Aside from their boards and accessories they also carry a huge line of shoes, clothes, and other skate related items. Why would someone bother to shop at our little store with a vastly limited stock of items when they can choose from such an array? Only if it is an impulse purchase or a repair is necessary. Perhaps the local bike shop will just stock repair equipment and replacement wheels instead of trying to be a fully stocked skate shop. Online stores like this one are bound to be much more satisfying to the casual shopper than our 600 square foot shop ever could be.
