Lost and Found

(I wrote this on Tuesday morning but the post wouldn’t show up using Flickr upload.  I need to find a better way to blog from my phone.)

Yesterday afternoon I did more walking around Sitka.  At about 5:15 I withdrew money from the ATM while talking to Cena and remember saying “hold on” while I was trying to stuff the cash into my wallet.  I walked a while longer (perhapd a mile and a half) and then had dinner.  I paid cash for dinner.  I then went out for a beer while waiting to meet up with a friend from Petersburg.  I noticed my two most frequently used cards missing.  My debit card and my Alaska Airlines credit card.

It was dark so I didn’t think retracing my steps would be worth my time.  I figured that I would have noticed the missing cards when I paid for dinner.  I called there and nobody had turned any cards in.  I logged into my bank account and there were not any charges on the debit card.  In southeast Alaska you’re rarely asked for ID when using a credit card.  (The only times I can think of is when buying something at a touristy shop in Juneau during the summer.)  They never check for signature accuracy. I’m together enough that I have the phone numbers to call for lost or stolen cards for most of my accounts stored in my phone. I called te number to cancel my bank card but they couldn’t even find my bank.  Maybe I should double check and update those numbers.  I figured I could work on the details during my long layover in Juneau today.

No need.  A First Bank employee found both cards near their ATM this morning.  They’re mailing them back to me.

..now if I can just find a way to get out of that middle seat on the flight from Anchorage to Juneau all would be well!

I wonder how much ID/signature is checked anymore for anything. I bought my last computer about a month ago from a local Apple store and they didn’t check my ID and barely glanced at my signature before handing my the merchandise. Its not like it was a $8K system, but I still wouldn’t want someone faking a $600 purchase with my card either.
