The value of an email newsletter

We all get lots of spam in our email.  We even get messages that at some point we actually expected to use.  I get survey opportunities that every now and then i bite on.  After years of doing them i almost have enough “points” to get a DVD.  I got the monthly email from T-Shirt Hell and clicked on a link.  As the page loaded i noticed an amazing trend in my status bar where the Alexa plugin is.

I would be willing to bet that those spikes in their graph coincide with the monthly email that they send out.  Their three year chart has these monthly spikes in it that follow the slow rise and fall of their overall popularity.

I’ve probably been getting their monthly email for three or four years now and that was perhaps the second or third time that i even opened the email.  Judging by the graph sending out a message once a month to people that opt in for a mailing really can be worth your time.  I really am quite surprised.  I wonder if their sales charts look similar.
