Every now and then i like to peek at what websites are near me in “meatspace”. A GeoUrl meta tag added to your site will probably not generate much traffic but you might find someone nearby that you might want to pop in on their site occasionally. Follow the GeoUrl instructions page or do it like this…

- Determine your exact latitude and longitude. I find the easiest way for me to do that is to go to Google Maps and enter your zip code or physical address. If it is off a bit (it sure is for my town in Alaska) then zoom in on the location and center the map by right clicking on the map and selecting “center map here”. Then above the map on the right click on “Link to this page” and a little box pops up. Look through the code for “UTF8&ll=”. The numbers that follow are the latitude and longitude of the point you centered the map on. Copy the digits between the = and the & symbol (see above). Note that if you’re in North America that the second number has a minus sign – that is important!
- In the head portion of your page with the other meta tags put
but remember to include any minus signs along with the numbers. Now save and upload your page.
- Finally ping the GeoUrl server.
- You probably want to add a link back to GeoUrl so that you and others can easily see your neighbors. After pinging the site they give you code to add a link that you can just copy and paste into your site.
