We use a spray bottle filled with water to discipline our kittens. Having used the technique on my other cats i can just make a “psst” sound and they will take off running. But these kittens are being a little more troublesome. They have largely learned to not be on the counter but they just are not quite grasping that the dirt in the potted plants is off-limits. After nailing Hex with about 8 hits with the squirt bottle for playing in the dirt of our cacti i thought it was time to deter them somehow. What we need is something that allows watering, discourages digging, and allows evaporation and transpiration. Rocks. Lots of small rocks would do. Since my small rock collection is out in the flower beds under my larger snow-and-ice-from-the-roof collection, we resorted to a backup plan. We used my marble collection instead. If i hadn’t discarded them years ago my beach glass collection would have served the purpose well also. Hopefully that will keep them out of there.
