While trying to price a few things for sale using eBay as a reference i stumbled on a winner. I refuse to bid on any item on eBay that is listed in all caps. If it is an item that i really want i actually have sent the seller a message to tell them that i will not bid because of the annoying practice. When people spell poorly it also annoys me. Check this out…
WE WILL NO LONGER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PATCHES LOST IN THE US MAIL– IF YOU WANT, WE CAN BUY INSUREANCE ON THE ITEM AT YOUR EXPENCE– WE TRY TO KEEP OUR SHIPING AND HANDLEING DOWN AS LOW AS POSIBLE AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE ITEMS LOST IN THE MAIL. WE HAVE HAD ONLY TWO ITEMS LOST IN FOUR YEARS OF SELLING ITEMS ON EBAY SO FAR, BUT TWO ARE TWO TOO MANY.
…they used the right two/too/to but spelled shipping wrong. To make this especially painful this bit was copied from the seller’s payment instructions which is automatically posted in each of their auctions.

Insurance, expense, and possible were also spelled wrong - I was afraid to look any closer!

Yeah - all four are pretty common words. I spell things wrong often enough but “insurance” and “shipping”?

Someone named “Sharon” started to post “And I can even hit the shift key when when typing a personal pronoun.” on this thread - Cocomment caught it but the comment was somehow deleted. Let me explain. I don’t capitalize “i” unless it begins a sentence. Why? Because we don’t capitalize “me”. In Japanese asking someone’s name you say “O-namae wa nan desu ka?” (お名前は何ですか). The reply would be “Ryan desu” (Ryan です). Translated the question is roughly “What is your honorable name?” The Japanese refer to others as honorable but never themselves. I find it odd that our culture capitalizes “I” and not “You” - unless, of course we’re referring to God who seems to be the only person worth of a “He”. Interestingly, this was actually a one of the first subjects i wrote about online.

I recently had to tell my students that I won’t respond to any emails sent in all capital letters, and that I expect them to speak to me in their emails the way they would face-to-face. It was in response to this email…
