Open-mouth-cat-stink has a name. That name is Flehmen.
In doing some research on my bacon scented air freshener post i stumbled on the Wikipedia entry about flehmen. People with cats have probably seen this when their pet sniffs something particularly odd. In my case that would be my toe jam. The cat would take a whiff and then sort of sit back and open their lips and make what a friend of mine once called open-mouth-cat-stink. Since i grew up on Furman Road i should be able to remember “flehmen” but open-mouth-cat-stink is so much more fun to say.

so, its the animal version of (a human reaction) gasface. a close relative to stinkeye, and a neighbor of crookeye.
That is really funny, my girlfriend and I call it our cat’s “stink-face”, and we sometimes (for amusement) try and get her to smell things that would cause her to make that face.
Thank you for clearing up the mystery of my cats “stink-Face” My boyfriend and I thought our cat was just weird.
Joe and I call it “spunk-butt face” because Charlie used to make that face after licking his dirty bits or smelling his spunk.
But then, Charlie is the only cat I’ve heard of who continued to hump and spunk AFTER being “fixed.”
HAhahahah…..duuude i thought my cat was the only cat that did that wierd face, til i got another one….but i still dont get why they do it..is it cause they are trying to process the smell??
but watever it is its funny as hell
