The kitchen range

Projects Add comments

Yesterday my order from Lowes arrived in town. Ira Morgan helped me haul the stuff from the freight company to the house after work. The pile included one interior door, three windows, 25 square feet of tile, a french door and a kitchen range. When Cena got home we wasted very little time and got to work on removing the old range.
The old kitchen range
We pulled it out and saw old spills that had slipped between the stove and the counter top. Shed spider exoskeletons and tiny things lost under there from the kittens mixed with the sludge formed from spilled who-knows-what and dirt. The range we removed had a vent built into the cook top. The actual fan was mounted to the floor and a 6″ hole and ductwork vented to the outside. No matter what i have tried i have not been able to make it feel like there is not a huge draft in the floor of the kitchen because of the opening. Cena started cutting a plug for the opening out of some rigid insulation while i cleaned the floor and removed the fan mount. We unpacked the new range and she started to clean it while i removed the power cord from the old appliance and attached it to the new one. We pushed it into place and found the power outlet was blocking the back so that the range stood a few inches from the back wall. So we pulled it out and i turned off the breaker so i could lower the power supply. A few minutes later we were pushing it back in place, setting the clock and planning our first meal on the new addition (and improvement) to the home. Tacos! We plan on putting the old stove in the kitchen we’ll build for the apartment. But that will be another day’s project.
