Phishing

A warning to anyone that reads this blog. Beware of phishing. Crafty but unscrupulous folks have taken to spamming people (imagine that) with messages that mimic the appearance of valid companies. So their message looks like it comes from Citibank, eBay or Paypal. The header might look something like this…

I knew immediately that this wasn’t really from Paypal because i don’t have any connection between my Paypal account and my work email address. Any links you click from the email message even open up a browser window that make you think that you’re on an official website. The email will look like it is from the company too - official logo, links to privacy policies, etc. But they get you to fill in your id and password and then make a transfer to their account from yours.

So never even click on the link provided in these emails. If you do the spammer will know your address is valid and then you’ll just end up with all the more spam. Don’t ever fall for requests for account information made through an email.

another new method of ripping you off is: people are basically doing the same kind of mimicking of paypal but directly from ebay by posting “paypal” links in their description. if you click on their link instead of the “official” paypal link… well let’s just say you’re done for and good luck getting a court date in malaysia
