I dropped Amy off at “the end of the road” today and she rode her bike back to the house. It took almost exactly 3 hours for her to ride the 30 miles. On my drive back to work i came up with a few stories that i really should have written up and on here. But i can’t remember them at all now. I’ll wise up and use the voice recording function of my Treo pretty soon i think. Wednesday there were killer whales in the Narrows at lunch time and i completely forgot about the digital camera on the thing. I didn’t have my good camera with me (another lesson to learn). But i guess now that my car doors lock properly again (well, almost – the remote doesn’t work) that i can fairly safely leave the camera in the car and at least have it that close.

Some time ago i was contracted to set up a website for the Petersburg Economic Development Council. I finished the web design back in November. Things finally came together this weekend and i was able to launch Petersburg Economic Development Council’s almost completed site. There is still a little fine-tuning to be done. I’d like it if their logo was something other than a scan of their letterhead, i think the photos are kind of lacking, and since i did most of the site work nearly a year ago i’m already in the mood for an overhaul.
I now have a new cell phone and pda. the treo 600. I am using it to make this post which will be synced to the site.
A few days ago Klas chartered a flight to take some pictures.
There were two “extra” seats on the plane so Amy and I tagged along for
the hour. Naturally, i shot quite a few pictures (as did Amy –
using my camera on her side of the plane).
One of the primary reasons for the flight was to get a shot of this bit
of handywork mowed into the grass flats on Farm Island near the Stikine
River.
We flew over the North Arm of the Stikine River’s mouth where it dumps into Dry Straights.
Then we flew over LeConte Bay and it’s smattering of icebergs.
And here is LeConte Glacier – the southernmost tidewater
glacier in North America. Also the reason that Petersburg was
founded where it is – for ample ice to be used for shipping fish.
We then headed over the Coast Range and it’s rocky peaks, expansive ice fields, and many glaciers.
This is the Witch’s Caldron – a primary route to climb Devil’s
Thumb. The Caldron is a glacier but is so covered with rock and
debris from avalanches that it is dark during the summer.
Here is Devil’s Thumb. It is one of the border
mountains between the US and Canada. It has the tallest unclimbed
vertical face in North America and has been attracting climbers
interested in conquering the North West face. It has also
been killing climbers attempting the climb. There is an
“easier” route to the summit than the NW face – but who wants to be
number 50 when you can be the first?
Rock and ice. Not really a whole lot more.
This is a perfect depiction of a medial moraine.
The dark line just off center of the glacier is where the two glaciers
meet. The line is the collection of rock and debris from scraping
along the side of the mountain (the lateral moraines combining).
I mistyped “Yahoo” when going to check an email message and went to this site instead. Out of curiosity i thought i’d see what other domains Yahoo has pointed to their site. I found yahjoo and yuahoo and then thought that maybe someone else had compiled a list so did a yahoo search for “yahoo yahjoo yuahoo” and of course at the top of the results it said “Did you mean yahoo yahoo yahoo?” Scrolling through the results i found a World Intellectual Property Organization decision that transferred ownership of 27 domains to Yahoo that were phonetic takeoffs or typo similarities.
Amy and I are working on watching the first season of the A-Team on DVD. And the entire collection of Monty Python’s Flying Circus is probably going to be a project for Cena and I since Amy isn’t at all a fan. Then there is season 2 of Speed Racer… and season 1 of the Transformers. So we have a good 2 months of couch time lined up. Maybe when winter comes we’ll get the chance.
I bought a Stihl weed whacker last week. Weeds have no chance. I spent four times as much on this piece of equipment than the lawnmower i bought a few months back.
