June 2004

Next week i should be able to give a few updates. Angela, Cena, Judy, Tiffany, and I along with a few other volunteers are putting together the activities for the 4th of July this year. Judy is taking on most of her normal activities and Cena has taken on new ones but otherwise the committee is new. It is a bit hectic because of changes we had planned on – this week it is proving to be more than a full time job.

Here are a few pictures from the Juneau trip… I’ll edit this post and give a better narrative later.

We had to be at the ferry terminal at 3:30 AM. Perfect to catch the sunrise.

On a walk to the glacier i spent time with this River Beauty (Epilobium latifolium).

The weather was so warm that there were lots of people out enjoying the pools of water near the glacier.

Cena, Angie, Matt, and i hiked up Mount Roberts. Angie hiked back down while the rest of us rode the tram.

This is one of many carvings done in trees near the top of the tram.

We got to go bowling!

Angie has pretty good bowling form.

Sometimes you just have the perfect t-shirt for the occasion.

Chrissy and Amy horsing around near the Mendenhall Glacier.

I have quite a few more…

In my mail the other day was a large envelope from the Bush/Cheney campaign. I am not registered in any political party and don’t think i ever will (again that is). But i was amused by the gimmick. They sent me a personalized “photo” that is “suitable for framing” (sure – if you frame low DPI cardstock – but most cereal boxes have better color and resolution than this “photo”) in appreciation of my anticipated contribution. They even requested that i inform them of the receipt of the (alleged) photo using their postage paid envelope. Naturally a contribution was also requested. I taped 1 peso (as of this moment that’s 0.0872372 USD – yes almost 9 cents – hey, i wanted to help out with the postage.) to the form and made sure to check off “please send me a Bush/Cheney ‘04 bumper sticker.” I hope the other major political party sends me some loot too. I have another peso kicking around.

[This post in my blog has surfaced at the top of some search engines for "presidential photos". I imagine that most people are not looking for my silliness but actual portraits of the presidents. Here is an excellent link if that's what you're looking for.]

Since today is Flag Day, Amy and I are proud to show off our Flag Day Poinsettia. We bought this at the flower shop a week or two before Christmas. So the thing has been alive for 6 months.
