December 2003

Alright. Now the random images are working. I made a bunch of graphics of my own for my navigation column (trying to eliminate any images i have not created). I can’t get the calendar applet to work quite right yet – and it is frustrating me beyond belief.

Spidering Hacks by Hemenway, Calishain

I have been trying to learn about “screen scraping” “api” “rss” “xml” “spidering” and other stuff. I barely have a grasp on html or css and i’m taking a big leap here. All i need are more abbreviations in my life.

I used rss and xml to snag the headlines from yahoo news at the bottom of the page. I’m going to try and figure out more about spidering so i can target some of the content i grab.

Long promised (well, maybe a week) – and finally delivered… I updated my site’s design. Quite a bit still not quite like i want it. And now my site is available by typing www.zieak.com in your browser. (Thanks to my brother for squatting on the domain – he says it will cost me one million dollars in ransom. )

Flu pandemic. Sharks. SARS. Terrorists. Snipers. Seems like the news really is trying to make me afraid of something every time i pay attention. It isn’t working.

I made my hottest chili the other day. Yum. And ouch. I was practically crying when i finished my first bowl.

Having no internet connection set me back on my Christmas shopping quite a bit.

I’m working on another complete redesign of my site. I may have it up later this weekend. We’ll see. Most of the links to other sites from my page are broken now because of a broken cgi script that was stored in a folder that was lost in the transfer.

The ISP crash dust is still settling. My personal site was down and things may change a bit still. I’ll probably register a domain (zieak.com is still available) so that I can move from host to host. I guess I get a bit of space with my new ISP. I went with a cable modem. Pretty dang fast. Really frigging fast.

I installed my car headlamp last night. Now i just need to replace a light bulb for my turning signal and i’ll be legal. Next part to replace will be the plastic grill. Aargh.

This completely free program should be installed on every computer. It removes any program that installs malicious cookies, tracking programs, or other items that track or report your internet use. Run the program once a week or so, check for updated nasty programs, and make your internet connection (and computer) run faster.
